About the Author:

David Fontana, Ph.D. is the author of The Secret Language of Symbols and The Secret Language of Dreams , both published by Chronicle Books.

Review:

-- Kliatt, July 1997
The author teaches at the University of Wales in Cardiff and the University of Minho, Portugal. Just as important is the fact that he is a Jungian who makes extensive use of art (the book has 150 beautiful illustrations) to illustrate what is claimed to be a practical guide to remembering and understanding one's dreams. The beliefs that undergird this book are Jungian, and include a belief that dreams are "a conversation between our unconscious and conscious minds, offering us opportunities to understand ourselves better and achieve greater inner harmony." There are 144 brief chapters, each two pages, each copiously illustrated, organized into six major groups that move from basic Jungian beliefs about dreaming, to how to recall dreams, to the meaning of dreams (including a glossary of dream symbols, e.g., a journey in a dream symbolizes personal growth and exploration), and how to interpret dreams. The format of the book, and its overall presentation and use of illustrations, are excellent.
