Jeffrey A. Carver was a Nebula Award finalist for his novel Eternity's End. He also authored Battlestar Galactica, a novelization of the critically acclaimed television miniseries. His novels combine thought-provoking characters with engaging storytelling, and range from the adventures of the Star Rigger universe ( Star Rigger's Way, Dragons in the Stars, and others) to the ongoing, character-driven hard SF of The Chaos Chronicles--which begins with Neptune Crossing and continues with Strange Attractors, The Infinite Sea, and Sunborn.
A native of Huron, Ohio, Carver lives with his family in the Boston area. He has taught writing in a variety of settings, from educational television to conferences for young writers to MIT, as well as his ongoing Ultimate Science Fiction Workshop with Craig Shaw Gardner. He has created a free web site for aspiring authors of all ages at writesf.com. Learn more about the author and his work at starrigger.net.
Neptune Crossing , the first installment of Carver's new galaxy-spanning series, the Chaos Chronicles, introduced John Bandicut, a down-on-his-luck mining engineer relegated to a thankless job on Neptune's moon, Triton. Bandicut's luck changes when an invisible alien entity, which dubs itself Charlie, invades his mind and enlists his aid in saving Earth from a wayward comet. Now millions of light-years from Triton, with both comet and Charlie destroyed in a spectacular collision, Bandicut establishes contact with a resurrected version of Charlie, meets another alien named Ik, and discovers he is needed for another unfathomable mission that may bring him back to Earth. Carver's new yarn has all the ingredients for well-deserved popularity: an original creative angle using the budding science of chaos theory; an intriguing alien life-form in the symbiotic quarx, Charlie; and an irresistibly readable story line reinforced by fascinating speculative science. Readers who come this far will be hooked for the series' duration. Carl Hays
