Drawing on her own early experiences as a Zimbabwean living under the Mugabe dictatorship, Ndlovu's stories are grounded in truth and empathy. Yvette Lisa Ndlovu is a Zimbabwean sarungano. She earned her BA at Cornell University and her MFA at UMass Amherst. She is the Newhouse Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Wellesley College.
