As the United States moves toward becoming a nation of suburbs, New Jersey is a place more Americans should get to know. The challenges it has overcome and those it continues to face provide lessons that will help states across the country address the struggles of providing quality education, protecting the environment, improving the quality of life, and accommodating a multicultural society while sustaining growth and opportunity. Written by two of the most respected political analysts in the state, this is the only book available that provides a comprehensive overview of politics and government in New Jersey. This thoroughly revised third edition, published for the first time by Rutgers University Press, also highlights recent scandals within the government and the high profile of the governorship.

About the Author:

Barbara G. Salmore has served as dean and professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison (2000-2006) and as associate dean and professor at Drew University. Stephen A. Salmore was a political consultant and professor emeritus of political science at Rutgers University.

Review:

New Jersey Politics and Government continues to be the best book on the Garden State and a model study of the nation's state politics. This new edition maintains the authors' notable heritage of insight, knowledge, and effective writing. -- Gerald Pomper, professor emeritus of political science, Rutgers University

The Salmores are two of New Jersey's finest political analysts, and they present a splendid overview of the landscape. This book fills a gap in the literature on New Jersey state government and politics. -- Thomas H. Kean, former president of Drew University, governor of New Jersey, 1982-90
