Frank Meyer traveled Asia for ten years searching for useful plants, he concentrated on fruits, nuts, grains and fodder crops instead of ornamentals, the first to do so. This is also an adventure story as he encountered many hardships along the way, he disappeared on June 1, 1918 while on a steamer on the Yangtze River. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper "To Larry McGraw/ a kindred spirit of/Frank N. Meyer/with best wishes/Isabel Shipley Cunningham/March 30. 1989". Larry Mcgraw's address stamp at top of page with written date of Feb. 21, 1989 and his signature. Laid-in is a two page handwritten letter to Larry from the author discussing Plum species, daffodils, the USDA, Home Orchard Society, Jan Luelling, History of the Bing Cherry, quite interesting. Larry McGraw was owner of Sheep Rock Nursery in Kimberly, Oregon, Pomology was his passion for more than 50 years. He founded and was president of the Northwest Fruit Explorers, designed the pioneer orchard of the Sauvie Island Bybee-Howell Territorial Park, helped launch the Home Orchard Society, Sunset Magazine featured many articles about and by him, including a 1973 story highlighting the 300 varieties of apples in his gardens. Book is highlighted throughout with some check marks and underlining and a few notes. Dust jacket rubbed, one edge tear, small chips at head and tail of spine, dj now in a protective mylar sleeve. Illustrated with 4 maps and numerous photographs, list of Meyer's plant introductions, list of Meyer's Germplasm locations, recipents of the Meyer Medal, notes, bibliography and index, 317 pages.
