John Michael Vlach is Chair of the American Studies Program, Professor of American Civilization and Director of the Folklife Program at George Washington University. He is the author of The Afro-American Tradition in Decorative Arts; Charleston Blacksmith: The Work of Philip Simmons; and Plain Planters: Making Sense of American Art.
