From Library Journal:
Maggie Humm is Professor of Cultural Studies in the School of Humanities and Social Science at the University of East London
The "definitions" and commentary in this very selective work were written by Humm, a senior lecturer of women's studies in Britain. Given an inch to a page, over 400 common words and proper names focus on Anglo-American and French contemporary feminist theory with a few Third World entries. Thus, women's political issues, public figures, and social researchers (e.g, Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem) are excluded, though Susan B. Anthony is mentioned briefly. Even within this scope, coverage seems uneven. The entry "man" mentions only the feminist concern for using the word to cover women, too. But "woman" is given a more lengthy comment. Beginning researchers in feminist theory may find this survey useful, but it will be incomplete or already familiar for specialists. Most libraries can wait for a more definitive work.
