The studies in this volume explore two important and controversial issues which are equally significant when examining not only Brecht's works but his life as well: his treatment of women and his engagement with twentieth-century politics. In addition, there is discussion of what credit can properly be given to individuals who collaborated on works which when they later appeared ion print bore only Brecht's name. The essays are exploratory in nature, designed not to exhaust a subject but rather to stimulate further study of the question.
