Running a small business sounds exciting and rewarding, but the reality is usually far different. In the form of a diary, this book offers a candid view of what small business ownership is really like for the novice. This guide shares the real-life drama of building a business over a ten-year period, including the hard lessons learned and the mistakes to avoid. It goes beyond get-rich-quick scheming to reveal: how owning a business is about constant self-assessment; how your feelings about making money can actually affect your sales and cash flow; and tried-and-true insights that all entrepreneurs should find useful. The book covers a wide range of significant and practical business issues: cash flow, hiring and firing, working with experts, setting goals and writing a business plan.
