Argues that parents should strive to develop their child's self-confidence, suggests useful techniques for teaching children to be decisive, and discusses common behavior problems

This "how-to" parenting book uses concepts from developmental psychology to present a program for building a child's self-confidence. Infant-parent bonding, a toddler's struggle with dependence and independence, sibling and peer competition, and adolescence are shown to be "crises" that we must help our children resolve. Some sectionson negative language, childhood fears, and group participation vs. individualityinclude advice pertinent to issues of self-confidence. However, much of the self-confidence theme is used as a vehicle to present the authors' personal biases in child-rearing and becomes a plea for a return to traditional values.
