This book is an illustrated compendium of variations in reproductive strategies found in plants and animals. Excellent photographs accompany every concept introduced by the authors. Techniques of locating mates, styles of courtship, methods of sperm transferral, degrees of parenthood, incest, "marriage," and parthenogenesis are discussed, primarily in animals. Similar in topic and scope to Burton's Mating Game ( LJ 1/15/77), Sex in Nature is written in a more lively and readable style, with care in avoiding advanced terminology. Highly recommended for the general reader. Frank Reiser, Biology Dept., Nassau Community Coll., Garden City, N.Y.
