Editor and co-owner of Field Trial Magazine, he has 11 years' experience teaching English at the high school level and six years' experience teaching social studies at both the middle and high school levels. Katherine M. Doherty has a B.A. in anthropology from the University of New Mexico and an M.S. in library science from Simmons College. Director of learning resources for New Hampshire Community College, she has worked as a librarian at elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as entire school districts. A member of the American Library Association, the New Hampshire Library Association, and the New Hampshire State Library Advisory Council, Doherty serves as a trustee of the Dummer Public Library.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 5-9–Thorough, excellent-quality titles. The first section of each volume describes the native cultures living in each area. Subsequent chapters are devoted to early settlers, including the English in North Carolina and Rhode Island and the Quakers in Pennsylvania. All three books take readers through the War for Independence and the events leading up to the Constitutional Convention of 1787. Sidebars offer primary-source materials, including excerpts from charters, proclamations, speeches, and writings, and small sections profile prominent settlers. Maps are strategically placed and extremely clear. These titles are far more detailed than those in Raintree's 13 Colonies series. First purchases for most public and school libraries.–Linda Beck, Indian Valley Public Library, Telford, PA
