The Bulletins of the Employment Stabilization Research Institute were published from 1931 until 1934. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. The Employment Stabilization Research Institute was established at the University of Minnesota during the first years of the Great Depression to make an intensive study of the causes of unemployment, its effects upon individuals and institutions, the vocational aptitudes of a large group of unemployed, and the possibilities for re-educating and re-training those who are ill adjusted economically. The findings of the Institute, which gained international recognition, are embodied in some fifty published bulletins and articles. The two monographic volumes Balancing the Economic Controls and Men, Women, and Jobs summarize these studies for the general reader and constitute the final report of the Institute. They deal respectively with the economic and human aspects of the unemployment problem. This collection comprises Volumes III and IV of the Institute’s bulletin series. Topics include: Measured Characteristics of Clerical Workers; A Demonstration of Individualized Training Methods for Modern Office Workers; A Study of the Needs of Adults for Further Training; Research Studies in Individual Diagnosis; Vocational Interest Scales; Employed and Unemployed Workers: Differential Factors in Employment Status; Physical Findings among Certain Groups of Workers; Differential Occupational Ability Patterns; and A Type Study of American Banking: Non-Metropolitan Banks in Minnesota.
