Reg Grant trained as an historian at Oxford University. He then worked as a language teacher in Paris and Lisbon before returning home to become a freelance writer. His books for Hodder Wayland include several volumes in the New Perspectives series. From School Library Journal:
Gr 6-10-The origins of Nazism and the resultant Jewish Holocaust are the subjects of these concise works. Freeman and Grant present readers with finely crafted amalgams of information, statistics, and cogent quotations carefully culled from primary and secondary sources. The narratives are straightforward and objective, but never dry or dull. The authors allow the horror of the Nazis' goals and of the Holocaust to emerge by letting the facts speak for themselves and buttressing them with the actual words of the participants, perpetrators, and victims. The well-selected illustrations help to raise these two books above the ordinary; many of the photos and reproductions have not been overused in similar books and a few are in color. The informative maps are also in color and a light yellow is used to highlight blocks of augmenting text. A useful glossary, helpful index, and source notes are appended. These selections complement Gail Stewart's Hitler's Reich (Lucent, 1994), Peter Neville's Life in the Third Reich (Batsford, 1992), and the recent Holocaust Library series (Lucent).-David A.
