The Author: David White is Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at Macalester College, where he taught for thirty-nine years. His doctorate is in Asian Studies from the American Academy of Asian Studies, University of the Pacific. He has published articles on the philosophy of the Gita and has worked on the present translation for more than twenty years, using the various earlier versions of his translation in teaching the philosophies of India.
