In Love of My Life, an entertaining prequel to Wooing Miss Whately (2004) and Miss Seton's Sonata (2004), Miss Cassandra Renwick, an ingenuous chit reminiscent of Georgette Heyer's Arabella, is attracted to the intriguing Julian Ritchie, a half-English, half-Indian clerk in her father's Calcutta office. She schemes to provide him with the social respectability she feels he deserves, only to discover that while he was courting her for his own purposes, she has fallen in love. Purists may object to some of the historical inaccuracies, but those who enjoy a lighthearted romp will take to Bond's series. Lynne Welch
