Kindergarten-Grade 2 - These skimpy, overgeneralized books offer little information, even for very young children. The texts deal mainly with geographical features, such as mountains, rivers, deserts, plains, and cities, with several pages also devoted to flora and fauna. The color photo on each page is clear and interesting, but the one or two sentences accompanying it are nothing more than simplified captions that loosely relate to the picture. Each page deals with a different topic, but there is no particular organization to the material. Each book begins with a simplified world map with the subject continent in red and all others in yellow. Africahas an additional map that delineates the various countries and a simplified map of the regions. North America has a map delineating its three countries as well as Central America. Each title has a page of "Cool Facts." Children who are sophisticated enough to want to investigate the continents deserve more than these books supply. - Lynda Ritterman, Atco Elementary School, Waterford, NJ
