Kindergarten-Grade 3–In this goofy story, Captain Hazel Nutt is "hurtling" through space in her ship, the BoobyPrize when she and her crew encounter a flying meatball storm. The young travelers make an emergency landing on the planet Wutt. There is plenty of wordplay (" 'What's the name of this planet?' asks Captain Nutt. 'Wutt,' says a Wuttite.… 'WHAT'S THE NAME OF THIS PLANET?' she screams. 'WUTT,' the Wuttite screams back"), tongue-twisting alliteration, and general hilarity all around. When Hazel realizes that her vehicle has landed on the Wuttite's leader, she presents the aliens with a ladder to replace their fallen comrade, and they respond by saying: "We can't take you to our leader… but we can take you to our ladder!" Fortunately, she bounces right back up when Hazel blasts off in her spaceship. The pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations are as quirky and colorful as this comical adventure.
