"This is the must-have etude book of the year. No only is the definitive edition of the 32 Rose Etudes reprinted from Carl Fischer's 2002 edition, but clarinetists now have lovely arrangements with piano accompaniment, of all the etudes thanks to the imagination and skill of pianist John Walker. Walker, Distinguished Artist in Residence at South Dakota State University, has composed idiomatic accompaniments that sounds as if they were originally conceived by Ferling/Rose. The clarinet and piano settings follow in the tradition of previous composers such as Andre Petiot, Paul Jeanjean, and Jan Bach who also composed accompaniments for the etudes.
Walker's piano accompaniments are interesting texturally and harmonically. These are short recital-level pieces from which clarinet students will grow musically. All in all, this volume is beautifully done. Also check John Walker's Web site for a recording of the Rose Etudes for clarinet and piano and Brahms Intermezzo arrangements." --March 2010
