Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going? In seeking answers to these fundamental questions, Peter Marshall develops a dynamic and organic philosophy for the third millennium which he calls liberation ecology. Deep, social and libertarian, it seeks to free nature, society and individuals from their existing burdens so that they can realize together their full potential.Riding the Wind presents a fresh and inspired vision which combines ancient wisdom and modern insights, reason and intuition, science and myth. It is an exciting and uplifting work on how to live well and in harmony with oneself, with others and with nature. It will appeal to all those adventurous spirits who are searching for meaning and who wish to find their rightful place within the universe.

About the Author:

Peter Marshall , Ph.D., is a philosopher, traveller, and full-time writer. He has a doctorate in the History of Ideas, and has taught philosophy and literature at several British universities.

Review:

"Riding the Wind is a well-written and accessible work. It makes a strong statement of Peter Marshall's important and distinctive position in contemporary ecological thought. The book deserves to be read and discussed widely."
—John Clark, Professor of Philosophy, Loyla University

"Marshall's sense of the beauty and wildness in nature, of the sacredness of natural life and of the wisdoms of the Eastern mystics are, of course, important considerations in a world which is increasingly mad with competition, dominance, neo-imperialism, and profit. And any reasonable person would applaud his efforts to promulgate the importance of this sense of nature's sacredness if we are to survive as fully human beings in the twenty-first century."
—Arthur J. Spring, Bridges, Winter 2001

Book Description Bloomsbury Publishing PLC, United Kingdom, 2000. Paperback. Condition: New. New edition. Language: English. Brand new Book. In this account of his thinking, Peter Marshall develops a dynamic and organic philosophy for the coming millennium which he calls liberation ecology. Liberation ecology is holistic in viewing the world as a harmonious whole and all beings and things as interwoven threads in nature's web. It recognizes intuition as the main source of knowledge, and, above all, it is libertarian in seeking to release humanity, society and nature from their existing burdens so that they can unfurl and realize together their full potential. Exploring our strengths and possibilities, this book presents the ideas and values needed to ride the winds of change at this crucial stage in our development and in the history of the world. It provides a philosophy for a new era, a vision which combines ancient wisdom and modern insights, reason and feeling, science and poetry, myth and the marvellous. It offers a guide for the future on how to live in the most fulfilling way and how to create a free and sustainable society in harmony with nature. Seller Inventory # AAV9780826447036
