Merlín R. Carothers es capellán (teniente coronel retirado). Ingresó al ejército en l943 y prestó servicios en la Segunda Guerra Mundial en Francia, Alemania y Bélgica. Perteneció a la guardia del general Eisenhower después de la guerra. Dado de baja en l945, asistió a la Universidad Marion (Indiana) y al Seminario Asbury (Kentucky) antes de asumir el pastorado en una iglesia metodista en Clypool, Indiana durante tres años. Después de ingresar de nuevo al ejército en l953, el capellán Carothers prestó servicios en alemania, Corea, República Dominicana, Panamá y Vietnam, retirándose en l971.
En la actualidad se desempeña extensamente como consejero y conferenciante.
