About the Author:

Frederic Wehrey (M.A., Near Eastern Studies, Princeton University) is an Adjunct Senior Policy Analyst with the RAND Corporation. His research at RAND has focused on Saudi-Iranian relations, the domestic influence of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the impact of the Iraq war on the strategic landscape of the Middle East, and the effects of reform on political violence in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. He has conducted fieldwork in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the U.A.E., Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt. In the fall of 2008 he began full-time study for a doctorate in International Relations at St. Antony's College, University of Oxford. He speaks and reads Arabic

David Elliot Thaler (M.I.A., International Security Policy, Columbia University) is a Senior Defense Research Analyst at the RAND Corporation. His research focus includes Iranian political and military affairs, airpower in irregular warfare, and Middle East affairs

Nora Bensahel (Ph.D. Political Science, Stanford University) is a Senior Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation, specializing in military strategy and doctrine. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Security Studies Program at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. Her work focuses on stability operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, post-conflict reconstruction, military coalitions, and multilateral intervention

Kim Cragin (PhD, Cambridge University) is a Senior Policy Analyst at the RAND Corporation and adjunct professor at the University of Maryland. She focuses on terrorism-related issues, and served for three months on the staff of GEN David Petraeus in 2008

Jerrold D. Green (PhD, Political Science, University of Chicago) is a former Senior Advisor for the Middle East for the RAND Corporation and current CEO and President of the Pacific Council on International Policy

Dalia Dassa Kaye (PhD, Political Science, University of California, Berkley) is the associate director of the Center for Middle East Public Policy (CMEPP) at the RAND Corporation and a faculty member at the Pardee RAND Graduate School. At RAND, her research has addressed a range of Middle East security issues including alliance relationships, the effects of the Iraq war, the Iranian challenge, security architecture, U.S. diplomatic approaches to the region, and reform in the Arab world
