Grade 5-7-Like a whirlwind tour through a pop-culture museum, these heavily pictorial titles look at design and technology as they applied to each period's fashion, art, household appliances, furniture, transportation, and architecture. Space allotted to each entry often allows for little or no clarification. Colorful photographs are generously interspersed among the short blocks of text. Captions and sidebars abound, providing information in tidbit form. Some of it is unique, such as the description of the method for creating pure aluminum in 1900-20. Other captions are superfluous; in The 60s, the still from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey states that "This attendant on an interspace station flight is dressed all in white." Also, the books included in the short lists for further reading do not provide publication dates. These series titles can be considered supplemental to books such as the "A Cultural History of the United States through the Decades" series (Lucent, 1998) and Stephen Feinstein's "Decades of the 20th Century" series (Enslow, 2000).
