Richard B. Gartrell has been an executive in the travel and tourism industry for more than seventeen years. He has been head of two convention and visitor bureaus and a state travel director. He has held leadership positions at both national and international levels of the industry. He was instrumental in the development of educational programming for the International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus and the National Tour Association and the certification program for the Association of Travel Marketing Executives. He has served on the faculty of Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. He is a "Certified Association Executive", a "Certified Tour Professional", and a "Certified Travel Marketing Executive". He completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees at San Francisco State University and did his Doctoral Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A frequent seminar speaker, he blends his academic and professional talents with the presentation of this textbook.
