The history of Buganda, the major kingdom in the region comprising present-day Uganda stretches back more than 600 years. Its royal dynasty lasted through twenty generation, until its abolition in 1967, and at the height of the kingdom's power in the nineteenth century, it had a highly organized system of government with centralized authority and an elaborate administrative network that greatly impressed the European explorers. This work fill the need for a detailed and exhaustive history of Buganda which utilizes the rich Luganda sources to reconstruct the precolonial history of the kingdom.
