About the Author

John W. Welch, editor-in-chief of BYU Studies, attended Brigham Young University, Oxford University, and the Duke School of Law, where he studied history, religion, Greek philosophy, and law. Welch is a professor of law at BYU and was founder of the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS). He has written and edited numerous books and articles.
