The stories, one actres, novella, political essays, Zionist Congress records, and Menachem Mendel letters that appear in this volume show Aleichem’s real bond with the Shivat Zion aspiration, his understanding of the Zion motif, his longing for the homeland of Israel, and his intense interest in the problems associated with Zionism and Palestine. Written between 1888 and 1913, these works translated from Hebrew and Yiddish comprise almost everything that he wrote on this subject.
