Clarence Budington Kelland was born in Portland, Michigan on July 11, 1881 where he lived until he was 10 years old. His boyhood memories of Portland were to form the basis for the characters and setting in many of his stories. Kelland produced over 60 novels and nearly 400 short stories in his 61 years of writing. Several of his writings produced the basis for motion pictures, radio programs and TV shows. From the 1920s through the 1950s, "Bud" Kelland was one of the most widely read and highest paid authors in the world. He died February 18, 1964 at the age of 82.
