Helen Deverill starting riding as a child, but did not own her first horse until she bought ponies for herself and her daughter to show. For several years she was a a regular contributor (under the name of Helen Coleman) of articles and stories for Pony magazine and the Pony Annual, as well as writing occasional articles for equestrian publications, including Horseworld, Riding and the Pony Club Annual.
