Grade 8-12-- After giving background on the roots of the conflict surrounding the creation of Israel, the first day of the 1967 Arab-Israeli War--the so-called "Six Day War"--is covered in detail. The results of the war are examined, and an "Investigation" section looks at the concerns of Israelis, Palestinians, and Arab nations. Competently written, the book will hold readers' attention well, and explains a complex situation with commendable clarity. Somewhat superior, although narrower in focus, to Paul Harper's The Arab-Israeli Conflict (Bookwright, 1990), it could be used as a complement to Worth's Israel and the Arab States (Watts, 1983). --Ann Welton, University Child Development School, Seattle
