General Frederick Coutts, the eighth General of The Salvation Army (1963-1969), was a prolific writer and a renowned communicator. General Frederick Coutts was born in 1899 and became a Salvation Army officer from Batley in 1920. He spent 18 years fulfilling roles in The Salvation Army's Literary Department before becoming Principal of the International Training College (now William Booth College) in London. Prior to becoming General in 1963, he was the Territorial Commander of the Australia Eastern Territory. During his active officership he wrote more than a dozen books and continued writing during his retirement. He was promoted to Glory in 1986.
