Synopsis

Both original rear drive and front drive models are described in what was an exhausting depth since this title dates back to the typewriter stone age!

Most useful today--I'm told-- are the specification and performance figures, along with production details.

Some readers--and there were a lot as libraries and book clubs flourished in this era--like the rewind back to the 1960s and some of the outrageous characters who inhabited the tuning/race prep companies of the day. 

My favourite was Ralph Broad of Broadspeed and the ride with him in a modified 1300Gt has been known to make even the most cynical of the hardened hacks break into involuntary chuckles.

Essentially a serious book, lightened by the lack of PR interference as I was not popular at Ford of Britain when it was written.

About the Author

As a former racing driver and current motoring writer, I have created 31 original non-fiction books since 1978. I work regularly for consumer magazine and book publishers in America and Britain. My books have been translated into French, German and Italian. This Ford Escort book was published in three editions and was a best-seller in its category for much of the eighties and early nineties.
A strong sense of humour and the ability to improvise characterised a 14-year stint as the UK correspondent of the largest Italian motoring magazine.   In 2012, I completed another 14-year spell as a columnist and feature writer for a 75,000 circulation American monthly magazine, one that continues to broaden my creative horizons. 
Venturing outside my comfort zone, I earned an Honourable Mention in the 2007 Writer's Digest competition, scoring a top 100 result amongst 15,000 fiction and factual entries from America and overseas.   International Automotive Media Awards [IAMA] at annual Las Vegas presentations in 1998 and 2000 brought me multiple wins.  
Covering biographies and multiple editions, co-authorships and translations, total sales for my factual books are estimated at 451,000. Ghost writing for sports personalities and appearing in TV advertisements were entertaining diversions.  Presenting regional TV programmes and creating an exotic supercar book with a follow-up diary for Marks & Spencer added working variety and skills.   
I continue to contribute to newspapers and magazines on either side of the Atlantic, including a regular by-lined American column and British classic car magazines.
