First published in 1965, this is the issue of 1983, and perhaps, first by this publisher. Super nice inside with one horse bookplate without a name on it and light handling soil on two pages within. Else crisp, unmarked and straight. 227 pp. Unclipped (and unpriced) original dj shows a few chips at head of panels and spine, in light grey sky area that doesn't show too much with the white paper backing of the dj mylar cover. Displays very well. The romance of the horse - and horsemanship has played a great part in Australian literature. Banjo Paterson, 'Breaker' Morant and Adam Lindsay Gordon wrote stirring ballads about horses - Paterson's The Man From Snowy River being the greatest and most famous of all. All three men were fine horsemen in their own right. Henry Lawson, Will Ogilvie, Edward S. Sorenson, Katharine Susannah Prichard, Xavier Herbert and many others, also commemorate the greatness of the horse in this fine collection - a celebration of the horse in Australian literature.
