All the elements of a light Gothic are included in this novel. A young heiress, a dark mansion and a handsome lord of the manor should make a good read but don't be fooled. The novel has little to recommend it to fans of the genre, and it's an unfortunate choice for audio. A more dramatic reading could have compensated for the lack of character development, but the narration verges on monotone. This recording doesn't live up to the expectations raised by the attractive packaging. C.A.K. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
