An innocent trip to the zoo turns into something quite extraordinary for Joe and Jo-Jo when their parents take a fancy to their new monkey masks.

When Joe and Jo-Jo go to the zoo with their parents for the day, a good time is had by all. The children get monkey masks, which they jokingly place on their parents. The parents leave the masks on, and something terrible happens. At home, their house is overtaken by a jungle, the refrigerator overflows with bananas and the parents can only grunt and make animal noises. It isn't until Joe and Jo-Jo weep and wish for their parents back that the nightmare ends; the children seem to have dreamed up the entire adventure on the way home from the zoo. The exotic art (from the illustrator of Brush ) imaginatively presents the story; that even very frightening moments can be met and dismissed is reassuringly set forth. Ages 3-6.
