Taken from Chapter 3: Getting married An expensive union Japanese weddings are extremely costly. The groom's family pays for the reception because according to tradition, the bride's parents are giving their daughter to the husband's family. Reception guests usually give generous gifts of money to the bride and groom, but they receive presents from the newlyweds in return. Guests also enjoy a delicious feast and may even watch home movies starring the bride and groom as they were growing up.
