Taken from Chapter 3: Preparing for a mission Thousands of people at the Kennedy Space Center in cape Canaveral, Florida, help prepare a shuttle for a mission. Before the orbiter is ready for the launch, or liftoff, people check all its parts to make sure they are working properly and safely. The cargo bay is loaded, and the equipment for the mission is put into the orbiter. Food and other supplies are stored on board.

Review:

Here is a fascinating look at a space shuttle for children. This is an excellent introduction to the space shuttle and is sure to answer many of the questions children, and adults too, may have about this technological wonder -- Cindy Todd, Charleston Public Library, Charleston, Oct. 1998
