Taken from Chapter 11: People of the Desert Fewer people live in deserts than in other parts of the world. Certain peoples, however, have adapted well to desert life. Nomads travel the desert, moving from one oasis to another. They use camels and donkeys to carry their tents and possessions. The San people of the Kalahari Desert and the Aborigines of Australia are hunter-gatherers. They eat plants and roots gathered by the women, and small animals hunted by the men.
