Taken from Chapter 8: Self-defense Some snakes and lizards use venom, or poison, to protect themselves. Poisonous snakes and lizards have two extra teeth called fangs in their mouth. Fangs collapse against the roof of the reptile's mouth when they are not being used. When the reptile needs them, the fangs flip down and are ready to be used.
