Synopsis
John Wesley Powell's insatiable curiosity led him to explore the area of the US marked ""unknown"" on maps -- an area he mapped and named the Grand Canyon. Powell was a one-armed Civil War veteran when he led the first expedition down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in 1869.

About the Author
Daniel Blegen taught English, journalism, speech, and drama at the middle school, high school, and community college levels for 34 years. He has written on the arts for magazines and newspapers. He is also a poet and playwright. Blegen is coauthor, with Melvin Bacon, of Bent's Fort: Crossroads of Cultures on the Santa Fe Trail. He lives and writes in Longmont, Colorado.
