The Changing Shape of Protestantism in the South originates from a conference in March 1995 in Columbia, South Carolina, sponsored by the Center on Religion in the South. This book focuses on those religious and social developments that are a part of the changing cultural landscape of life in the South. These developments are not seen as unique to the South, but reflect a pattern seen in the whole country.

Kevin Lewis and I were part of a "think tank" based in the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina, when this workshop was held. We were privileged to gather the papers, add our own thoughts in separate chapters, and then to edit the book. The book sold out years ago and is out-of-print. An updated version would probably be useful. I spend some of my time making presentations (I write these words in 2013) about Transitions in Denominational Life.About the Author:
