The Museum Pusat in Jakarta has an extremely extensive and valuable series of collections concerning Indonesia. One of the most famous of these is the Collection of Foreign Ceramics. Almost every item of the collection was found within the archipelago and is closely linked with Indonesia's history and traditions. Many pieces acquired for the collection were items of trade or were sent as presents by Chinese rulers. The objects vary greatly as to their period and country of origin. The book contains 95 color plates and numerous monochromatic plates of ceramic and porcelain objects in the collection. Photography is by Michiaki Abe.
