"Adams had originally intended to call this book 'Places to Stand' (a variant on a line of the poem that serves as the epigraph) but changed it to 'denver', a title he felt would have broader appeal. He began the project under the auspices of the State Historical Society of Colorado, which helped him gain access to the factory interiors that contribute to distinguishing this volume's subject from that of 'The New West'. While 'denver' maintains the segmented organization of Adams's earliest publications, the book was the first in which his pictures appeared independent of explanatory captions (a few captions can be found in the back of the book)." (Chuang, 'Books by Robert Adams' in 'The Place We Live volume III', np.) A reasonably well preserved softcover copy of this, the first edition. Seller Inventory # 2012603
