Reviews

This suspenseful novel has as a bonus vivid descriptions of the Rio Grande country and the hazardous lives of its inhabitants during the reign of Emperor Maximilian of Mexico. Curtis Daniels, wanted for murder in Texas, runs with Mexican bandits led by Guerrero, who robs and kills rich and poor alike as he seeks to become king of Sierra Madre. Not a killer at heart, Daniels leaves the band after a bloody melee. With Buffalo, a huge gringo, and Vasquez, a small Mexican, he sets out to avenge the deaths and to rescue Angelina, captured by Guerrero. They leave a trail of corpses as they fight their way to the bandits' lair. All ends well for the good--not so well for the bad. Good reading for Western buffs.
