An every-name index was prepared for this reprint edition. The volume begins with an account of the earliest traders and pioneers and proceeds to a description of the migration of permanent settlers into the area. Edgefield County produced many men who were prominent in South Carolina and even national history, and this volume contains biographical sketches of these men and their families, as well as genealogical information on numerous other families and individuals. A section on Secession and the Civil War includes an account of the Seventh and Nineteenth South Carolina regiments and their involvement in the war, as well as muster rolls of officers and soldiers in the Seminole War, Mexican War, and Civil War, along with information on where killed or wounded and when discharged.
