Book Description Reprint Company. Condition: BRAND NEW. BRAND NEW Hardcover issued without jacket - 737 pp. - notes - illus. - Appendix - biblio - index - Orangeburgh District was established in 1768 in the middle-western section of South Carolina. Its land area was vast, taking in areas that were later to become Barnwell District and Saxe Gotha (Lexington), and most of the present-day counties of Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, Lexington, Orangeburg, Aiken, and Allendale. Daniel Marchant Culler, a descendant of early Orangeburg families began work on this history in 1950 and continued his research until his death in 1968. His work was edited for publication by his family. The result is a much-needed history of the District and its people which focuses primarily on the period of time between the Revolutionary and Confederate wars. Thoroughly researched and scholarly, it is also extremely readable. It contains an excellent blend of factual information, historical interpretation, biographical data, and items of genealogical interest. Included is an exhaustive index containing entries for over 12,000 persons and places. A Brand New Quality Book from a Full-Time Veteran-Owned Bookshop in business since 1992!. Small wonder that researchers, who have been limited to Alexander S. Salley's History of Orangeburg: 1704-82 for the past century, are already hailing the Culler-Wolfe study for both its information and its readability:" (National Genealogical Society Quarterly).
