Step inside the world of the medieval knight...into his castle as he prepares for a feast in the Great Hall, as he enters into battle and as he mounts his hors3e preparing for the joust.

In The World of the Medieval Knight stunning cutaway views, brilliant panoramas and step-by-step sequences are all created by the illustrator Brett Breckon. His unique “exploded views” reveal in lavish detail the intricate way the knight’s armor was built.

Discover how a page learned how to become a knight, how a knight’s horse was armed, how a castle was attacked and defended, how heavy the knight’s armor really was and what happened to the role of the knight.

About the Author:

Christopher Gravett obtained a Masters degree in Medieval Studies from the University of London. He was a Curator in the British Museum before moving to the Royal Armouries in the Tower of London.

From Booklist:

Gr. 4^-6. Gravett introduces knights and medieval European civilization through a series of more specific topics such as castles, jousting, battles, sieges, crusades, chivalry, armor, and weapons. Each spread includes several attractive paintings illustrating knights in action as well as labeled and captioned details of their world, all attractively framed by narrow, decorated borders. The book follows the familiar British format for illustrated nonfiction, which consists of large pages with a double-page spread devoted to each topic, but this is both more informative and handsome than most. A large map shows "The Knight's World" of warfare, pilgrimage, and trade, extending from Bannockburn to Jerusalem and from Moscow to Tunis. A good addition to collections on medieval life, this book will be used for browsing as well as reports. Carolyn Phelan
