Reviews

Grade 1-3-Originally published in Jones's Terry Jones's Fairy Tales (Puffin, 1986), this story warns about the dangers of self-importance. Dissatisfied with the North Sea, a herring swims around the world and makes many fascinating discoveries. When he returns home, he refuses to associate with his dull friends and relations. However, a fisherman's net equalizes them all in death, and the proud herring ends up on a man's dinner plate. Foreman's illustrations of sea life are adequate but unexciting. All in all, the book is insubstantial. It's a tale that may have enriched a collection, but it lacks punch as a solo offering.
