A distinguished, award-winning writer for both children and adults, Anthony Masters has been described by Junior Bookseller as 'a skilled novelist and a man of deep understanding - [he] writes beautifully, giving each word its value'.From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-5-Although there is some strong writing in evidence, Masters's retellings of 10 myths are marred by the overuse of the passive voice and plot summaries. His inclusion of both well and lesser-known stories presents a useful balance in introducing examples of different types of myths but, unfortunately, no sources are cited for variant tellings. Each page is decorated with pastel marbling and the illustrations, though realistic, soften the tales. Masters handles the text in the same way, avoiding the passion in many of the stories by careful word choices. More material in this high-use subject area is always needed, but this title is not a first choice.
