"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
This is a record of the extraordinary success achieved by black athletes in Olympic competition since the inception of the modern games. The body of the work consists of biographical sketches of the competitors which outline their individual accomplishments. Added attention is accorded the more prominent athletes, primarily those engaged in track and field. A list of sources drawn upon by the author follows each entry. A closing statistical segment in tabular format presents complete lists of medal winners by event, location, and year. Shorter sections profile group efforts (e.g., East African distance runners) and blacks in managerial positions. Recommended for comprehensive sports collections as well as black studies programs.
